Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 24, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Harshavardha A. (“NoRot,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with the NoRot mobile application and related services (the “App”).

We are the data fiduciary responsible for your personal data under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”). This Policy is designed to comply with the DPDP Act and to reflect good privacy practices for users worldwide.

By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. A Note on How NoRot Works

NoRot helps you reduce screen time and block distracting apps using Apple’s Screen Time API and Family Controls framework. Because of how these Apple frameworks are designed:

  • The App’s monitoring of your app usage happens on your device.
  • Apple restricts apps from transmitting Screen Time data off the device. Your detailed app-usage data (such as which apps you used and for how long) is processed locally on your device to generate your statistics, Focus Score / Brain Score, streaks, and insights.
  • We do not receive, store on our servers, or sell your app-usage data.

2. Information We Collect

a) Information processed on your device (not collected by us):

  • App and category usage, screen-time totals, and activity needed to power blocking, scheduling, focus sessions, scores, streaks, and insights. This is processed locally via Apple’s frameworks.

b) Information you provide to us:

  • Account details, if you create an account (for example, name or email).
  • Communications you send us (for example, support emails or feedback).

c) Information collected automatically:

  • Subscription and purchase status, provided by Apple (we do not receive your payment-card details).
  • Basic technical and diagnostic data, such as device type, operating-system version, app version, language, and crash logs, used to keep the App working and to fix problems.

We do not knowingly collect special-category or sensitive personal data.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App and its features;
  • Generate your statistics, scores, streaks, insights, and challenges;
  • Process and manage subscriptions (through Apple);
  • Respond to your support requests and feedback;
  • Diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve the App;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal data.

4. Legal Basis and Consent

Under the DPDP Act, we process your personal data based on your consent, which you provide by agreeing to this Policy and using the App, and, where applicable, for legitimate uses permitted by law (such as responding to your requests).

You may withdraw your consent at any time (see “Your Rights” below). Withdrawing consent may limit or disable parts of the App. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before withdrawal.

Where the EU/UK GDPR applies to you, our legal bases are consent, performance of our contract with you (these Terms), and our legitimate interests in operating and improving the App.

5. Device Permissions

The App requests permission to use Apple’s Screen Time / Family Controls features. You grant these permissions voluntarily, and you can revoke them at any time in your device settings. Revoking them will disable some or all App features. We only use these permissions to provide the App’s stated functionality.

6. How We Share Information

We share information only as described here:

  • Apple: Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.
  • Service providers: We may use trusted vendors (for example, for crash reporting, analytics, or subscription management) who process limited data on our behalf under appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
  • Legal reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or a governmental request, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • Business transfers: If the App or its assets are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.

We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the App, fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, and comply with legal obligations. On-device data remains on your device and is removed when you delete the App or clear its data. Where we hold account or support data, we delete or anonymize it when it is no longer needed or upon a valid deletion request.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a personal data breach occurs, we will notify the Data Protection Board of India and affected users as required by the DPDP Act.

9. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Correct or update inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • Erase your personal data;
  • Withdraw consent at any time;
  • Grievance redressal – raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (below);
  • Nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity, as provided under the DPDP Act.

If the GDPR or other laws apply to you, you may also have rights to data portability, to restrict or object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

To exercise any right, contact us at getnorot@gmail.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

10. Children’s Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 9, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Under the DPDP Act, processing the data of a child (under 18 in India) requires verifiable parental consent; the App should only be used by minors with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us personal data without proper consent, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International Data Transfers

We are based in India. If you use the App from outside India, your information may be processed in India or other countries where we or our service providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we take steps to ensure your data receives an adequate level of protection.

12. Grievance Officer

In accordance with the DPDP Act and applicable Indian rules, you may contact our Grievance Officer with any questions, concerns, or complaints about your personal data:

Grievance Officer: Harshavardhan Email: getnorot@gmail.com

We will acknowledge and resolve complaints within the timeframes required by law.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the App or by updating the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
