This Privacy Policy explains how The developer. (“NoRot,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with the NoRot mobile application and related services (the “App”).

We are the data fiduciary responsible for your personal data under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”). This Policy is designed to comply with the DPDP Act, Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines, and generally accepted privacy practices for users worldwide.

By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.


1. A Note on How NoRot Works

NoRot helps you reduce screen time and block distracting apps using Apple’s Screen Time API and Family Controls framework.

Because of how these Apple frameworks are designed:

  • App monitoring happens entirely on your device.
  • Apple does not allow apps to access or transmit detailed Screen Time activity from your device.
  • Your app usage information (such as which apps you use and for how long) is processed locally to generate your Brain Score, streaks, statistics, insights, focus sessions, schedules, and challenges.
  • We do not receive, upload, store, or sell your detailed Screen Time or app usage data.

2. Information We Collect

a) Information processed only on your device

The following information is processed locally and never leaves your device:

  • Screen Time activity
  • App usage information
  • Focus sessions
  • Blocked app activity
  • Brain Score / Focus Score
  • Streaks
  • Daily statistics
  • Usage insights

This information is processed exclusively through Apple’s Screen Time and Family Controls frameworks.


b) Information you provide

Depending on how you use the App, you may provide:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Account information (if you create an account)
  • Messages you send through support or feedback

c) Information collected automatically

To improve the App, we automatically collect limited technical information, including:

  • Device model
  • Device type
  • Operating system version
  • App version
  • Preferred language
  • Country or region (derived from device settings)
  • Crash reports
  • Performance diagnostics
  • Anonymous usage analytics
  • Subscription and purchase status (provided by Apple)

We never receive your payment card information.


d) Analytics

To understand how people use NoRot and improve the App, we use privacy-focused analytics services.

Analytics may collect information such as:

  • Screens viewed
  • Buttons tapped
  • Features used
  • Session duration
  • App launches
  • Feature adoption
  • Crash frequency
  • General performance metrics

Analytics does not include:

  • Screen Time data
  • Which apps you use
  • Time spent inside other apps
  • Your blocked apps
  • Family Controls data

Analytics data is used only to improve the reliability, usability, and performance of NoRot.

Where available, analytics data is aggregated, pseudonymized, or anonymized.


3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide and maintain the App
  • Generate Brain Scores, statistics, streaks, insights, and challenges
  • Sync account information (if applicable)
  • Process subscriptions through Apple
  • Respond to support requests
  • Improve features and user experience
  • Analyze App performance and feature usage
  • Detect crashes and bugs
  • Prevent abuse and fraud
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not:

  • Sell personal information
  • Build advertising profiles
  • Share personal information with advertisers
  • Use Screen Time data for advertising

4. Legal Basis and Consent

Under the DPDP Act, we process your personal data based on your consent, which you provide by agreeing to this Privacy Policy and using the App.

Where applicable, we also process information for legitimate purposes permitted by law, including:

  • Providing requested services
  • Maintaining security
  • Improving application performance
  • Responding to customer requests

If you withdraw consent, some App functionality may no longer work.

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our legal bases include:

  • Consent
  • Performance of our contract with you

5. Device Permissions

NoRot requests access to Apple’s Screen Time and Family Controls APIs.

These permissions are used solely to:

  • Block selected apps
  • Schedule blocking sessions
  • Calculate Brain Score
  • Generate insights
  • Power focus sessions

You can revoke these permissions at any time through your device settings.

Revoking permission may disable certain features.


6. How We Share Information

We only share information in the following situations:

Apple

Apple processes:

  • Purchases
  • Subscriptions
  • Billing

under Apple’s own Privacy Policy.

Service Providers

We may share limited information with trusted service providers that help us operate the App, including providers for:

  • Analytics
  • Crash reporting
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Authentication
  • Customer support
  • Subscription management

These providers may only process information on our behalf and under appropriate confidentiality and data protection obligations.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information when required to:

Business Transfers

Most Screen Time and app usage information remains solely on your device.

If you delete the App, locally stored information is removed from your device.

Account and support information is deleted or anonymized when no longer needed or upon a valid deletion request.

Analytics data may be retained in aggregated or anonymized form for product improvement.


8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information.

These include:

  • Secure data transmission
  • Access controls
  • Encryption where appropriate
  • Authentication protections
  • Monitoring for abuse

No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Where required by applicable law, we will notify affected users and regulators of qualifying data breaches.

10. Children’s Privacy

NoRot is not intended for children under 9 years of age.

Under Indian law, processing personal data of individuals under 18 requires appropriate parental involvement where applicable.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate authorization.

If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, please contact us so we can remove it.


11. International Data Transfers

We are based in India.

If you access the App from another country, your information may be processed in India or other countries where our service providers operate.
